"The Workplace Mobbing Syndrome: Abstract: Over recent decades legislation has been enacted to ensure workers are protected from unsafe physical and discriminatory practices within their workplaces. Yet, many workers remain unprotected from destructive behaviour that has the capacity to erode their professional and personal lives. This paper offers a review of the literature that highlights the socio-economic implications of not addressing workplace mobbing practices. Additionally, although mobbing is not gender specific, we argue that women are particularly vulnerable within public sector organizations and present a case study depicting the outcome following a female worker experience of workplace mobbing syndrome. We conclude by calling for greater public awareness in the hope that this may lead to workplace regulations and/or strategies to protect all workers from this serious occupational health hazard. |
